Contour for You

Face Shapes

The first thing that you should have a look at, is what shaped face you have. There are quite a few, perhaps subtle differences for some, that can alter the way that makeup looks on you compared to someone else. Most of you reading this, will not have the same face, nose or eye shape as the Japanese models in the magazines. It's definitely something to consider before copying the tutorials to a T. All our "gyaru evolution" timelines aren't just that we've gotten better at applying falsies - it's mainly to do with us finally figuring out how we can look gyaru by changing subtle things to change our face shape. Here are the main shapes I have found via the wonderful Google Images:

Nose Contour

This very good video below from Mr Goss, shows how to correct different shaped noses. Not everyone needs such excessive contouring as seen in some styles of gyaru, with the shading going straight down the bridge of the nose. This can sometimes look over-done or awkward. Have a watch and see which one can apply to you.

Cheek Contour

So, the very basic cheek contour is to gather some product on your fluffy brush and apply it in a "3" shaped motion on either side of your face, starting from the hairline above your cheek-bone and cutting under your cheek, and sweeping down to the jaw. While this works for a few face shapes (namely round, oval, long and heart - shapes) other face shapes may look dis-proportioned because of the way it changes your looks.
The gyaru magazines 'Happie Nuts' and 'Koakuma Ageha' did several hair & makeup issues where it has some good examples of different cheek contour (and highlight). Though, if you can't access those, here is a great resource below:
